Step 3: Deciding on Specific Accommodations for Marc

As discussed previously, accommodations are designed on an individual and course-specific basis.  Marc and his counselor sat down together and discussed some reasonable accommodations that would work for his courses.

Both Marc and the professor had concerns about two field trips to local archaeological sites that would be critical to this course.  On these trips, students must hike several miles to look at rock art and cave paintings.  However, the trip would be impossible for a student in a wheelchair.  Marc would require some significant, but reasonable accommodations.

The professor stated that the field trips were essential elements of the course.  The professor, counselor, and Marc brainstormed ideas.  The SDRC counselor asked if there was any way that the field trips could be recorded.  The professor had never considered that.  Together they decided they would record the field trip on video.  The TA would take a video camera to record the same important elements that are pointed out to others on the field trip.  The professor then developed narration to accompany the video which pointed out essential highlights.
