Step 5: Revising the Accommodation Plan for Marc

At first, Marc viewed the video and followed the narration provided.  However, Marc wanted to actually experience a field trip first hand.  Marc requested another meeting with the professor and his SDRC counselor.  The professor remembered that he had seen accessible trail markings and roadside stops on his visit to a nearby state park.  The professor asked his TA to visit the sites to determine if they were accessible and if they had the characteristics to fit the essential skills of the course.  The TA visited the sites and reported back.  Once it was clear that the adapted field trip would work, the details were worked out.

They decided the TA would guide Marc on his field trip.  They also realized they would need a vehicle that could transport Marc in his wheelchair.  They decided that it would be cost-effective to equip a van with a grab-bar and a portable ramp which would allow Marc to get into the van.

Outcome

Marc successfully completed Introduction to Anthropology.  He decided to major in anthropology with an emphasis in cultural resource management.  The professor liked the video idea so much he asked the faculty development office to help him make a more refined version of the field trip.
