Step 3: Deciding on Specific Accommodations

Student talking with disability counselor

Once a student is found to be eligible, he or she moves on to the third step in the process, Deciding whether Specific Accommodations are needed.  In this step, the student and the SDRC counselor look at the student's disability-related limitations and how these limitations interact with the required activities of the course.

The counselor then makes individual recommendations for each course the student is taking.  Before making these recommendations, the counselor may need to talk with you about how your class is designed, how you plan to evaluate student progress and whether additional accommodations are even necessary to ensure access to the essential knowledge and skills the course in intended to teach.
